What determines the scent of the Peppermint oil?
The smell and effect are largely determined by the menthol in the peppermint oil.
The menthol content in this oil should be between 40 and 50 percent. The percentage depends on the harvest time.
Evaporate in space
The oil is also used to evaporate for colds for the relaxing effect of headaches and relief for the respiratory tract.
Use on the skin
Peppermint is diluted in a base oil such as Sweet Almond or Grape Seed oil and can be used on oily skin. This essential oil relieves itching and has a soothing effect.
What is the essential oil used for?
Peppermint oil is often used in aromatherapy. The pure scent of Peppermint oil is often used as a flavoring agent in foods for its fresh, cooling effect and its soothing effect on the respiratory tract.
100% pure Peppermint essential oil is important for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
The essential oil is used in Peppermint candies, beverages such as tea and soft drinks, chewing gum, shampoo, cleaning products, capsules, toothpaste and mouthwashes.
Because the scent is quite dominant, Peppermint oil is hardly used in the perfume industry.
Usage
- In the sauna: add 24 drops to an ice ball or to the water in the sauna tub
- In an aroma burner: add 2 to 4 drops of Peppermint to the water in an aroma burner
- On an aromastone: add 2 to 4 drops to the stone of the aromastone
- Evaporate in a diffuser: add 2 to 4 drops to the water in the diffuser
- In a massage oil: add a maximum of 25 drops of peppermint oil to 250 ml of Sweet Almond oil for a natural, refreshing massage oil.
- For steaming: add a maximum of 1 to 4 drops to boiling water and steam with a towel over the head
- In the steam room: add 2 to 4 drops of essential oil to a sponge and place it in a stainless steel bowl under the steam pipe
- In the bath: use our Me Time bath oil for mint in the bath, otherwise mint essential oil will float on the water.
Use 25 ml of this bath oil in the summer for the refreshing effect. - Apply some Peppermint oil diluted in Sweet Almond oil to the temples and forehead for a cooling effect, to combat tension headaches and prevent skin irritation.
Warnings
- Only for external use without doctor's advice. If taken internally, peppermint essential oil can be harmful. Never use internally on an empty stomach. Always consult a doctor if using internally.
- Keep out of the reach of young children.
- Do not take the essential oil neat or use it neat on the skin.
- Do not use in case of constipation and diarrhea.
- On sensitive or damaged skin, use no more than 1 to 2 drops diluted in 100 ml of sweet almond oil.
- Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Do not use in children under 2 years of age.
Peppermint oil mixes well with
The oil mixes well with the essential oils: lemon, orange, lavender, lavandin, eucalyptus, pine, rosemary, lemongrass, tea tree and mint oil.

The Mentha Piperita is a green plant that grows up to 60 cm high and is often extracted by means of steam distillation in North America.
Before you have extracted 1 liter of oil, you need 100 to 200 kilos of dried peppermint leaves from the Mentha Piperita.
Peppermint oil has a transparent to light green color.
