The botanical name or latin name of Patchouli oil is Pogostemon Cablin. The scent of this essential oil of dark Patchouli oil is sweet, rich, earthy, heavy and full of spicy, woody aroma.

When did Patchouli oil become popular?

In India, Patchouli was used to protect fabrics, clothes and shawls from moths and other insects. This contributed quite a bit to the popularity of the scent. Later, this Patchouli scent became the guarantee that the fabrics came from India.

Use Patchouli oil
The more drops are added, the stronger the scent is. So always start with a few drops and add more drops if necessary. The space in which the scent is spread also affects how the scent is experienced. If it is colder than 16 degrees, the scent will be less pronounced.
In the sauna
add 24 drops of patchouli oil to an ice ball or to the water in the sauna tub.
In an aroma burner
Add a few drops of essential oil to the water in an aroma burner. Always make sure there is enough water in the aroma burner. Do not let the oil burn in anyway.
On an aroma stone
Add 2 to 5 drops to the stone of the aroma stone and place the stone in the wardrobe to repel moths.
In a diffuser / air freshener

In a neutral shampoo
Add 5 ml of Patchouli essential oil to 1 liter of neutral shampoo.
Contraindication
- This essential oil is non-toxic, non-skin irritating and non-sensitizing.
- Do not ingest the essential oil pure or use it pure on the skin.
- Use the essential oil externally only and not during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children. Keep locked up.
- Do not use this product on irritated skin.
- Children do not like this essential oil because a few drops of patchouli oil are already quite heavy.
Patchouli oil mixes well with
The essential blends well with other essential oils such as Bergamot, Blue Chamomile, Cedarwood, Pine, Clove, Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, Orange and Ylang Ylang oil.

Extraction of essential Patchouli oil
The Patchouli plant is a rough herb that belongs to the labiates like lavender and mint species. It is an aromatic, perennial plant that can grow up to 90 cm high. The Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli plant) has a sturdy, hairy stem, large, fragrant, downy leaves and flowering tops of white-violet flowers in the summer.
The plant cannot tolerate full sun. That is why the plant is often planted on teak plantations in tropical Asian countries such as Indonesia. In addition to Indonesia, Patchouli is a native plant from India and the Philippines. Nowadays, the Patchouli plant is also grown in China, Malaysia and South Africa.
Water vapor distillation
We extract our Patchouli essential oil by means of steam distillation from the dried leaves of the Pogostemon Cablin plant from Indonesia. Patchouli oil has a dark orange to dark brown color. For 1 liter of essential Patchouli oil, 30 to 35 kilos of dried Patchouli leaves from the Pogostemon Cablin plant are needed. The essential oil is extracted by means of steam distillation.
