Menthol crystals are solid colorless crystals that purify the air with a fresh mint / peppermint aroma and ease breathing. Can be used in the sauna, steam room and in creams.

Menthol Crystals are solid colorless crystals. Menthol Crystals have a powerful antiseptic effect and are very refreshing and cooling.

What are Menthol Crystals used for?

They purify the air, increase attention, concentration and ease breathing. Menthol Crystals work well for study, meditation, flu, colds and in work groups. For asthmatics, they can be a relief for the airways. Menthol is obtained by extraction from mint plants. Menthol crystals are extracted from the essential oil of Mint oil or Peppermint oil. In nature, menthol mainly occurs in peppermint oil and plants of the Mentha family (Mentha piperita, Mentha arvensis). Peppermint oil contains 35 to 60% menthol.

Menthol crystals provide a very cooling effect and have a very fresh mint scent.
This scent eases breathing and has a higher peppermint concentration. Menthol crystals are cooling on breathing, but also on the skin. You only need a few grams of menthol on the sauna stones to achieve the cooling effect.

Use Menthol Crystals

Menthol Crystals are suitable for skin care creams and cosmetics or dissolving in essential oils, so they can easily be used in aromatherapy treatments, in the sauna and dissolved in alcohol. The cream can easily be applied to the skin after dissolving the crystals.

Use 1: Anti-itch creams

For personal care, you can apply a small amount of menthol crystals in an ointment to promote blood circulation. You can also add menthol crystals as an alcoholic solution to anti-itch creams.

Use 2: Dissolve in essential oils

Dissolve the menthol crystals in essential oils such as Eucalyptus oil or Lavender / Lavandin oil to use the refreshing effect of the menthol in combination with another scent in the sauna. When the menthol crystals are dissolved in an essential oil, they are also easier to use in aromatherapy treatments.

It is better not to dissolve so many menthol crystals in the following oils

Menthol crystals will still partly dissolve in Mint oil or Peppermint oil, but since this essential oil already contains a lot of menthol, it may be that not all menthol crystals dissolve well in it.

Use 3: In the sauna

First pour with ice or water and then put a few menthol crystals on the stove in a scoop of ice. Let the menthol crystals melt on the stove. In the sauna, be careful not to use too much as it can be too strong for the eyes if the air is displaced in the sauna cabin by means of a towel.

Use 4: Dissolve in Alcohol or hot water

Menthol crystals can also be dissolved in alcohol or hot water before use. A solution of 2 to 10% is most convenient. Please note the risk of fire, so always add water or ice before pouring. Our mixing guideline is to apply 25 ml (alcohol incl. menthol crystals) to 5 liters of water. You can adjust this amount as needed.

Use 5: In the steam room

Place a glass or stainless steel bowl under the steam pipe of the steam cabin. Every time the steam passes over the menthol crystals, the wonderful, refreshing menthol scent will emerge. If it is too strong, turn down the steam or add fewer menthol crystals to the bowl. If it is not strong enough, increase the steam or add more menthol crystals to the bowl.

Use 6: In a hand soap, shower gel or shampoo

To obtain a cooling effect when a shampoo is applied to the head, we have developed Mint Fresh shampoo that contains Menthol crystals. We also have Mint Fresh hand soap and shower gel.

Menthol crystals are edible

Besides the fact that menthol crystals are used for the scent, they are also edible. Since they are very concentrated, it is already effective if a few crystals are used in food. If you have no experience with this, use as little as possible in the beginning so that it is not overpowering. In food such as custard, the crystals dissolve slowly. They are wonderfully refreshing and have a strong mint flavor. Only use 1 to 2 crystals on a full bowl of custard. The crystals are mainly used in desserts, chewing gum, candies and other refreshing foods. 1 crystal can sometimes be enough to add a good taste to a dish.
