Difference in sauna aroma scents

Below is an explanation of the difference between infusions with pure scents, sauna infusions and sauna infusions basic.

It's about using the scents correctly. It is nice if an odor is present, but if an odor is too strong, it is more likely to irritate. If scents are used according to the guidelines indicated in the infusion manual or on the labels, the scent is present in the correct way.

Do not burn smell on the stove

It is important that the smell does not burn on the sauna heater. Ice balls are best used for this.

See the article about making ice balls for the sauna .

If you use water because it is not possible to work with ice, scoop from the bottom of your sauna tub so that you don't just scoop the scent directly onto the stove. The reason you have to scoop from the bottom is because oil and water don't mix. What this means is that the scent ends up on top of the water. It does not matter whether you work with essential oil or infusion. In both cases, an oil layer will form on top of the water after a few seconds. If you scoop from above, you scoop a large portion of the fragrance at once onto the hot stones.

It is also possible to use the scent separately in a bowl. Pour this bowl over the stones as soon as you have cooled the stones with ice or water. This way you can also protect the odor, just like you do with ice balls.

Tip: divide the ice or water several times

Normally you pour a full tub in two portions. Now do this, for example, 3 or 4 times to prevent the people at the top from suffering from the heat that lingers there.

NB! Do not rub your eyes if there may still be fragrance on your hands. This leads to irritation of the eyes. If you have gotten it in your eyes, it is best to rinse away the fragrance with an eye wash. If you do not have an eye shower, you can also just use the tap. In both cases, continue rinsing with the eyelid open until the irritation subsides.

Fragrance strengths

The reason why there are people who use pure essential oil or perfume is because if you dose it correctly, the pure scents work more efficiently as an infusion because you simply need less. But then you have to pay attention to the odor strengths. Usually, with a pure essential oil or perfume, you use about 10 to 15 drops of pure essential oil or perfume per liter of water. The amount that is best to use is always indicated on the bottle. Fragrance strength 2 is the lowest and fragrance strength 6 is the highest. You therefore need significantly fewer drops for fragrances with fragrance strength 6 than for fragrances with fragrance strength 2.

Fragrance notes

In addition to the scent strengths, when combining scents, we have a symbol for each scent indicating which group (citrus, wood, etc.) and tone the scent falls into. (Overtone, midtone and undertone)
The overtone appears first and lingers for a while, the middle tone comes after the overtone and lingers for a while, and then the undertone follows, which lingers the longest.

Fragrance strengths classified according to our advice

This may differ per situation, but this way you can at least see that it does matter what odor strength a scent has.

Fragrance strengths of essential oil and perfume

Fragrance strength 2 = moderate: 1.50 ml. on 1 liter of water. (30 drops in 1 liter of water)

Fragrance strength 3 = strong: 1.20 ml. on 1 liter of water. (24 drops in 1 liter of water)

Fragrance strength 4 = stronger: 1 ml. in 1 liter of water. (20 drops in 1 liter of water)

Odor strength 5 = very strong: 0.80 ml. in 1 liter of water. (16 drops in 1 liter of water)

Odor strength 6 = strongest: 0.2 ml. in 1 liter of water. (4 drops in 1 liter of water)

Fragrance strengths sauna infusion

Odor strength 1 = weak 8.75 ml. in 1 liter of water.

Fragrance strength 2 = moderate: 6.25 ml. in 1 liter of water.

Fragrance strength 3 = strong: 5 ml. in 1 liter of water.

Fragrance strength 4 = stronger: 3.75 ml. in 1 liter of water.

Odor strength 5 = very strong: 2.5 ml. in 1 liter of water.

Odor strength sauna infusion basic

All infusion basic scents have the same odor strength. So use 10 ml of this for 1 liter of water.

Mixing scents

For some scents with a high odor strength, it is useful to mix scents so that they appear less strong when they are spooned onto the stove. Pure fragrances and sauna infusions with a low odor strength are less likely to induce coughing as they are less likely to be overdosed. Scents that are unforgivable in case of overdose can often be combined very well with scents that are more forgivable.

Mixes from us can be used for this, such as:

  • Winter mix as a replacement for Cinnamon
  • Autumn mix as a replacement for Patchouli
  • Mint Fresh mix as a replacement for Menthol Crystals
  • Hamam mix as a replacement for Lemongrass

Of course, this can also be done yourself. Let your creative side run free and start experimenting.

Air exchange

Also ventilate a little more than normal by opening a door or window longer so that you refresh the air and bring more fresh oxygen into the cabin.
